At The Bell Hotel, we understand that your four-legged friend is part of the family. That’s why we’ve gone the extra mile to create a luxurious, dog-friendly experience for both you and your pooch. We know how challenging it can be to find a hotel that welcomes dogs without compromising on comfort, which is why we’re proud to offer two specially designed dog-friendly rooms. And the best part? Dogs stay free!

Suffolk is a haven for dog lovers, with its stunning coastline, picturesque countryside, and endless walking trails. Whether your pup loves bounding across sandy beaches, exploring woodland paths, or strolling through our market towns, there’s something here for every dog (and their owner). Here are some of our favourite dog walks in the area to inspire your next adventure.

Coastal Walk from Kessingland to Pakefield

For dogs who love the sea, the wild beaches of Kessingland and Pakefield are a dream come true. The walk takes you from the dramatic cliffs of Kessingland to the dunes and marram grass of Pakefield, with plenty of opportunities for your dog to splash in the waves.

If you’ve still got energy, continue on to the golden sands of Lowestoft or explore the winding lanes of the coastal villages.

The Suffolk Coast’s Church Trails

If you’re up for a more ambitious walk, the Suffolk Coast’s church trails are a must. These routes take you through some of the county’s most beautiful landscapes, including woodland glades, fields, and moorland. The Angels & Pinnacles trail from St Andrew’s Walberswick to St Peter’s in Westleton is a 6.5-mile route that showcases some of Suffolk’s prettiest churches.

For shorter options, try the Walberswick to Blythburgh or Southwold to Walberswick routes. Download the trail map  here

Felixstowe and the Deben Peninsula

For seasoned dog walkers, the 6.4-mile route starting at Felixstowe Ferry is a fantastic choice. This walk takes in fields, riverside paths, and the sea wall, offering stunning views of the Deben estuary. It’s a longer walk (around 3 hours), but the scenery makes it well worth the effort.

If you’re looking for something shorter, a stroll along the River Deben is equally rewarding. You’ll pass the UK’s last working tide mill in Woodbridge, and free parking is available at The Avenue car park.

Bungay’s Bigod Way

For a true taste of Suffolk, head to the market town of Bungay. The area offers three circular walking routes, ranging from a gentle 2.5-mile stroll around Outney Common to the more challenging 5.5-mile Bigod Way, which takes in the scenic Bath Hills and the village of Earsham.

With a mix of free and pay-and-display parking available, it’s easy to start your adventure. The routes are well-signposted, making it a stress-free experience for both you and your pup.

National Trust Dunwich Heath

Dunwich Heath is a true gem for dogs and their owners. This beautiful area offers a mix of woodland trails, open heathland, and access to the beach – perfect for a day of exploration. Look out for the free forestry car park on Westleton Road, and from there, let your dog lead the way through the scenic paths.

With plenty of picnic spots along the way, it’s the ideal place to recharge after a long walk. Dunwich Heath is dog heaven, and it’s not too shabby for humans either! For more information, check out the National Trust’s guide to visiting with your dog here.
