The Suffolk Coast is one of the most extraordinary places in the UK. Along countless miles of picturesque coastline you’ll find bustling seaside towns, sleepy fishing villages, acres of nature reserves, and beaches galore. Whether you’re a weekend sailor, sightseer, or simply looking for family fun, there is something here for everyone.

Experience nature at its best

As we love to tell our guests, the best way to connect with Coastal Suffolk, and of course charge your batteries for further adventures, is to take a stroll around the local landscape. Near The Bell Hotel, you’ll find an official Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and over sixty nature reserves (including former BBC Springwatch location RSPB Minsmere), so you won’t have to go too far to see what we’re talking about.

After all, Suffolk is the place a casual afternoon rambler can encounter rare wildlife, like the Dartford Warbler, common lizard, and even a wild otter.

The coastal air is great for clearing your mind, and wherever you explore, you will always find a warm welcome, a cosy pub, or delightful village to explore – great for quenching your thirst, and browsing the independent shops, ready for the stroll back.

Of course, if you’re looking for something more adventurous, you will find wild swimming, paddle boarding and canoeing experiences are never far away too.

Explore the Suffolk Seaside

Aldeburgh is, in our opinion, a must-visit for anyone coming to the Suffolk Coast. It’s one of the UK’s prettiest seaside towns, with pastel-coloured villas lining the promenade. You will feel like you’ve stepped into a postcard. And the smell of fresh fish is always on the sea air, courtesy of the day’s catches being sold down on the pebble beach.

You will find incredible history – did we mention local shipbuilders constructed the Golden Hind for Francis Drake? And it goes without saying, that there’s the best fish and chips in the country. With art galleries, world-renowned arts and music festivals, and markets that offer fresh local produce, and incredible handcrafted items, this is a town that embraces history, creativity, and style in equal measure.

Southwold is another unmissable coastal day trip. A place to relax, and admire the unusual and local houses – built with colourful local stone. Whether you want to explore its beautiful sandy beaches, experience a thriving market town atmosphere with oodles of independent shops, or discover the magical arcade on the pier, this is the place we recommend for the quintessential Suffolk seaside day out.

Step into history at Framlingham Castle

Famed as the location where Mary Tudor was proclaimed Queen of England, more recently name dropped in a song by Ed Sheeran, and home to many stories from over 900 years of history, Framlingham Castle stands tall as one of the greatest tourist attractions in Suffolk. It even has medieval jousting days!

It’s a place to experience what life was like hundreds of years ago and discover amazing views of the Suffolk coastal landscape as you walk along the towering ramparts. It’s a spectacular day out for families, and anyone who loves British history.

Whatever you want out of your Suffolk Coastal visit, there’s something for everyone here. If you’re looking for inspiration, speak to our reception team when you arrive, and we’ll be happy to give you some great ideas for things you can do during your time with us.
