If you’re thinking about a summer break, Suffolk is one of those places that feels instantly calming. Big skies, long beaches, quiet footpaths and towns full of character. Staying at The Bell puts you close to the coast and the countryside, but without the crowds that gather in the busiest spots.
Coast, countryside and days out worth planning Aldeburgh, Southwold and Walberswick are all easy to reach for beach days, independent shops and lazy afternoons by the sea. If you prefer quieter corners, Dunwich and the heathland around Minsmere are perfect. Minsmere is especially lovely in summer, with its reedbeds, bird hides and wide open views. It’s one of the best wildlife reserves in the country and a brilliant place to spend a few hours.
Sutton Hoo is another highlight. The story of the Anglo‑Saxon ship burial is fascinating, and the site itself has sweeping views over the Deben. It’s a great mix of history, landscape and gentle walking routes.
We’re also close to the Suffolk Coast and Heaths Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, which is full of peaceful trails, riverside paths and hidden viewpoints. Snape Maltings is ideal for a relaxed afternoon, with galleries, shops and waterside walks.
Walks, food and local finds Summer is the best time to explore on foot. There are plenty of circular walks from nearby villages, taking in woodland, fields and rivers. Suffolk’s food scene also comes into its own in the warmer months, from fresh seafood to local farm produce. Our menus at The Bell reflect this, with seasonal dishes and drinks from nearby suppliers.
Your base for exploring The Bell is a calm, comfortable place to return to after a day out. Our individually designed rooms, inspired by Suffolk’s landscapes and villages, keep that sense of place going even when you’re indoors. The restaurant and bar are open throughout summer for relaxed evenings.
To make your stay even better, we’re offering 15% off summer stays, plus a complimentary room upgrade where available and breakfast included.
Whether you’re here for beaches, wildlife, history, good food or simply a slower pace, Suffolk has plenty to offer in the summer months.
